More spellcheck news

posted in Blog, Donncha O Caoimh, Ireland, John Richards, Punctuation, Useful tip, Web Tech, button, comments, friends, gadgets, mistakes, screenshot, sneak preview, spellcheck, spelling, thunderbird |

I’ve only been reading Donncha’s blog for a wee while, to be honest since I found it in the “blogroll” when I installed WordPress (thanks for the link WP, he’s a great read;))

Anywho I’m reading his post about a funny thing thunderbird spellcheck does and one of the coments mentions WP spellcheck and even links to a screenshot of the WP toolbar with the Spellcheck button! (there be rude words there) Where’s my spellcheck button?

Missing Button???

Is this some sort of blogger discrimination, to keep us spelling ‘tards the butt of spelling nazi’s jokes? :D

I know it’s prolly a plugin or something I have to go and find, download, upload, install, configure and then maybe my postings will be error free. Ah well tis another one for the “look for on Google” to-do list ;)

Hehe. Glad you enjoyed the post. That spellchecker is on wordpress.com, and in Wordpress 2.1, the development version. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it myself and I’m glad Mark Jaquith only linked to the image instead of displaying it!

Its funny - when I installed Wordpress I didn’t expect an automatic link to a guy who lived 5 miles down the road from me in the Cork countryside. Of the millions of bloggers in the world, my nearest blogging neighbour was already added to my blogroll.

[…] I have in the past made fun of my own spelling and grammer and been irritated by the spelling and grammar Nazi that I am going to marry in the less than a year. To be fair, she does this when beside me or when my mistakes are noticed and I’m within earshot. Unlike John Richards who was so distressed by the lack of an apostophe that he used the worlds press to lash out internationally at an individual. Would his anger and frustration not have been better served by slating the education system that so obviously failed this man? probobally, but then “Malcontent frustrated with his lot in life lashes out at the Irish education system” wouldn’t have gotten quite so many column inches.
